SUMMARY:Become a Mentor to an Incarcerated Woman
DESCRIPTION:Mercy Connections is seeking women across Vermont to join its Vermont Women’s Mentoring Program\, a powerful initiative that supports incarcerated women as they transition back into the community. A new five-week training series begins January 14 and runs through February 11\, held every Wednesday from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. via Zoom.\nUpon completing training\, mentors are carefully matched with mentees—women currently incarcerated\, under community supervision\, or in pre-trial services—through a collaborative process involving the Vermont Department of Corrections and local partners. No prior experience\nwith the justice system is required.\nMentors come from all walks of life and commit to a minimum of one year. They serve as role models and support systems\, helping women navigate challenges such as addiction\, mental health struggles\, unemployment\, and housing insecurity. In addition to initial training\, mentors receive ongoing support through group meetings\, continuing education on reentry issues\, and community-building events.\nJoin Mercy Connections in creating pathways to hope\, healing\, and lasting transformation.\nRegister at https://mercyconnections.app.neoncrm.com/np/clients/mercyconnections/event.jsp?event=10072& or for more information\, please contact Mercy Connections’ Director of Justice\, Mentoring & Reentry Programs\, Joanne Nelson\, at jnelson@mercyconnections.org or at 802-846-7164.

SUMMARY:SJV Book Group - Praying for Our Adult Sons and Daughters by John & Therese Boucher
DESCRIPTION:Please join us for our book group on Praying for Our Adult Sons and Daughters: Placing them in the heart of God\, meeting Mondays at 9:30 AM from January 26 to February 9 in the Fellowship Room of the Parish Center.  Books will be $10 each; sign up by January 4 to order yours.\nNo one ever stops being a mom or a dad. So when our children become adults\, we still worry about them—and want to care for them. One way we can still care for them is to lift them up in prayer. When we do so\, God’s love for them—and for us—is unleashed. We are able to replace our concern with a love that comes from the heart of God. Our Father moves mountains of worry and discouragement\, leaving new refreshment and delight in its place. This book is designed for parents who want to pray for their adult sons and daughters with the kind of power that makes a real difference in matters of the heart.\nThis book:\n• Gives parents hope\, encouragement\, and a renewed commitment to pray and to relate lovingly to their adult sons and daughters.\n• Addresses the desire to be a better parent and shows how parents can best pray for specific needs.\n• Each chapter ends with a series of questions for reflection and introduces a “prayer skill” that will enable parents to persist in prayer and try new ways of praying for their adult sons and daughters.\nhttps://www.stjohnvianneyvt.org/sjv-book-group
