February is Heart Month

Heart disease is the leading cause of death for both men and women. To prevent heart disease and increase awareness of its effects, The Winooski Peace Initiative is proudly participating in American Heart Month. We all know someone who has heart disease.
You can make healthy changes to lower your risk of developing heart disease. Controlling and preventing risk factors is also important for people who already have heart disease. To lower your risk:
❖ Watch your weight.
❖ Quit smoking and stay away from secondhand smoke.
❖ Control your cholesterol and blood pressure.
❖ If you drink alcohol, drink only in moderation.
❖ Get active and eat healthy.
❖ Limit your time at computers and phones.
❖ Go outside and play with your children. Teach them games that do not require technology.
Be supportive of your family and friends – suggest a walk, craft, or an outing. Did you know that the Winooski Library offers opportunities to visit museums and other places of interest? Check with the Winooski Library to see what free passes or reduced prices on passes are available.
